Love America

Even though I’m British born and bred, I must admit that I love the American flag. The individual elements and colours that make up the Stars and Stripes allow for a lot of experimentation.

American Independence Day is fast approaching and I’ve been playing with red, white, blue, stars, and stripes to see what I could come up with that defined the passion Americans have for their country.

I first created this piece in Illustrator by making a series of squares, or ‘patches’, each with a different pattern or colour. I knew I wanted the word ‘Love’ as the central squares so I replaced the ‘O’ with a heart filled with stars and then went about strategically placing the patches around. Once I was happy with the placement I took it in to Photoshop and applied a scratchy grunge effect.
