Work in Progress: Grey Tabby Cat with Toy Mouse Painting

Here is a work in progress painting of a grey tabby cat I’ve been working on for the past few months… Yes, you read right. Few months! I’ve been putting it back on the shelf because I’m not sure whether I need anything above the cat’s head. It seems empty. I’ve seen work by other artists who can use empty space to their advantage, I however, need a bit more practice it seems.

I’ve already painted the sides of the canvas black, which has helped a little, but I’m thinking maybe I need some sort of partially faded pattern which is stronger towards the top of the wall. I think it’s time to dig out the old decorator’s stamps I have. Flowers or fleur de lys?

This piece of cat art is destined for my Etsy store when finished. It measures 8″ x 14″ and is approximately half an inch deep.
