Black Cat ACEO: Salem

Salem is a beautiful long haired persian black cat with yellow eyes. I had a lot of fun painting this ACEO as it has been a while since I’ve painted in this style and, not only that, black cats are a challenge.

I love to use purple and blue highlights on black fur and Salem’s fur is made up of hundreds of individual brush strokes built up in layers! Painted in acrylics on watercolour paper, I have coated this ACEO with a wax varnish and then gently buffed it with a cloth to enhance the colours and to help protect the surface. The varnish has a soft satin sheen.
